(Third Announcement)

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ORTHOGONAL POLYNOMIALS:
"Orthogonal Polynomials and Approximation Theory"

General Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is well known the increasing attention paid in the last years to the theory of Orthogonal Polynomials. In particular since their applications in a lot of different areas like numerical integration, spectral methods, interpolation, approximation theory, etc. Also in combinatorics, mathematical physics, quantum physics, etc. For this reason the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid organizes every two years an international workshop devoted to this topic. The first edition in 1992 was dedicated to Sobolev orthogonal polynomials, in 1994 to polynomials orthogonal in the unit circle, the IWOP'96 , held in 1996, to the applications of orthogonal polynomials in mathematical physics and the last one IWOP'98 was devoted to the numerical applications and symbolic algorithms.

The main aim of the 2002's edition of the Workshop is that a reduced number of invited mathematicians discuss and review recent progress of the Theory of Orthogonal Polynomials and Approximation Theory. The Workshop will take place in the main building of the Escuela Politécnica Superior of the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Leganés (Madrid), in the Aula de Grados of the University. For a detailed map visit the WWW (building 5).

The IWOP02 is sponsored by Ayuntamiento de Leganés , Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Real Sociedad Matemática Española (RSME).

The topics to be consider will be:

There were 12 plenary lectures and 20 short communications.

How to get Escuela Politécnica Superior

The best way to get the Escuela Politécnica Superior is by using the trains Cercaniaswhich can be reach from Atocha Railway Station Cercanias Line C5 (direction Fuenlabrada) and leave the train in the Station Leganés (not in Zarzaquemada!) which is at 5 min. waking from the University. Please see a scheme of getting to the University Campus , or if you prefer, see a more detailed map

    Registration and Registration fee

Please fulfill the registration form and send it to Jorge Arvesú. We extend the dead line only for participants (it is not possible to submmit short communications) up to May 30, 2002.

The registration fee is 120 Euros to be paid (in cash) in the opening session (Monday June 24, at 9:00). It includes the book of abstracts, all lunches. The registration form is available also in LaTeX format and PDF format .

    Hotel Information

It is possible to use the Hotel Tryp LEGANES with an University price for the IWOP02's participants, but also the participants can contact with the Sol Meliá Reservation Service in the phone 902 14 44 40, or on-line in the WWW. The rooms have remote-controlled satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, computer connection, air-conditioning, etc. The interested people should contact directly with the Hotel via e-mail to D. Juan Manuel Lominchar (Jefe de Recepción) sol.inn.leganes@solmelia.com . The prices are: double room: 102 Euros (51 Euros/Person) + 7% IVA, single room 78.50 Euros + 7% (25 rooms will be avaliable) The breakfast is included. Further information about the Hotel can be found cliking here. Where is the Hotel?

There is also the possibility to use the Student Residence Fernando Abril Martorell (UC3M, Leganes). (7 singles and 13 doubles). The prices are: 32 Euros for a single room and 21.40 Euros/person. If you are interested on these rooms please contact as soon as possible with Jorge Arvesu or Francisco Marcellan before May 20. Here there is a PDF file with a scheme of Leganés and the situation of the Residence and the University Carlos III.

    The Proceedings

The Proceedings of the Workshop will be appear as a special issue of Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis (ETNA) (see the URL site http://etna.mcs.kent.edu/). All the participants (invited lectures, short communications and poster) are encouraged to send their contributions to Francisco Marcellán. The dead line is November 30, 2002. The maximun number of pages is 20 for the invited lectures, and 10 pages for the other contributions. The papers should be written in LaTeX, preferably using the SIAM style files and to use available macros for theorems, proofs, abstract, etc. Examples of papers with this style can be found at the ETNA and SIAM home pages (for a little manual see the document Using SIAM's LaTeX Macros). All papers will pass a referee process.
